New features from ymail, gmail in 2007

Lots of features were added to the leading e-mail services in the year 2007. Here is a list of new features added to Yahoo! Mail and GMail

Yahoo! Mail 

  1. Infinite storage – No limits on maibox size. you can store any number of mails. You never have to delete any mail from your inbox.
  2. Mail – Messenger integration -  Chat directly from the yahoo mail interface
  3. Integrated messaging platform – Yahoo! added SMS feature to mail application. you can send SMS to any of your mobile contacts. With this, Yahoo! Mail is a platform to send e-mail/Instant Message/SMS to any of your contacts.
  4. JetBlue deal – You can surf yahoo mail and yahoo IMs at 30,000 ft in JetBlue flights.

GMail

  1. Group Chat & emoticons – you can now do an IM conference with a group of buddies.
  2. IMAP access – GMail allowed free IMAP access.
  3. Colored labels – you can specify colors to your labels.
  4. Pre-fetching and new Contacts Manager – GMail-2.0 has a new interface to address book.

Social GMail is coming?

Social GMail reported by a couple of months back seems to be on its way. Google Operating System, an unofficial blog has a post about this. According to this post, You will be able to see all the updates about the activities of your friends(Like the activity feed displayed on any facebook profile)  from the GMail/GTalk contact list.
